Italy is associated with good food and wine, not necessarily with cures. Yet the country has one of the oldest thermal traditions in Europe, and some of the best-known detox and spa methods are at home here. Here you find out where a health retreat in Italy is worth it and which houses we have selected.

At a glance
  • Northern Italy is easy to reach from much of Europe, by car or by plane.
  • From the Chenot Method to Chinese medicine in the Dolomites.
  • Health without giving up landscape, sunshine and Italian hospitality.

Why Italy

The Romans already built thermal baths. In Abano and Montegrotto in the Veneto, fango treatments with thermal mud are still offered today. Add the climate, the landscape and a hospitality that many find especially warm.

Northern Italy is close: from Munich you reach the Dolomites or Lake Iseo in a few hours, and Milan, Bergamo and Verona have international airports.

The methods

In Italy you find very different approaches. It matters to know beforehand what to expect.

  • Chenot Method: analysis, a detoxifying diet and intensive treatments, usually over seven nights
  • Lefay SPA Method: Chinese medicine, acupuncture and movement, three to seven nights
  • Thermal spas: fango, thermal water and rest, often also for shorter stays
In Italy, health does not have to feel like going without.

What it costs

The houses we recommend belong to the luxury segment. Programmes are usually charged per week or per package, often with the room on top. You find current prices in the house portraits.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants to combine health with a holiday feeling. Mountain people who hike by day and go to the spa in the evening. And anyone looking for a structured detox week who is happy to enjoy a glass of Franciacorta afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Do the houses speak English?

Almost always, and often German too, especially in the Dolomites and South Tyrol.

How do I get there?

By car over the Brenner Pass, or by plane to Verona, Bergamo or Milan. Many houses arrange a transfer.

Is there wine during a detox?

Usually not during a Chenot programme. But the houses also have guests who are not on a programme and eat and drink as normal.

Luxly does not provide medical advice. Whether a programme suits you is something to discuss with the house's medical team or your own doctor.

Still unsure which house suits you?

Tell the Luxly concierge what you are looking for. It answers honestly, even if that means: no house fits.
